It all started with a group of young, enthusiastic friends who had passion for epic fantasy, loads of creativity and energy to spare. They made foam swords and plywood shields, as they tried to make sword-fighting in friend’s backyard a sort of a weekly get- together. Since it was so much fun, they tried to make it into their own sport.
Soon, they found out what L.A.R.P. is, that it was much more fun than just fighting in a backyard on weekends. They teamed up with Guard of Ravens, L.A.R.P. group from Belgrade, which was already engaged in the hobby and they started developing the game and camping together. As more and more people started to take interest in training and playing, equipment got better, training got more serious and organization grew.
Other L.A.R.P. groups often call Green Banner just green guys as the color became their trademark. They all like the color and combined with the word ‘banner’ it just sounds - epic. There is no big or interesting story behind the name, as some people might think. Green Banner just sounds cool and that is it.
When speaking about Green Banner, it is necessary to mention Green Shield Workshop. Without it Green Banner wouldn’t exist. Guys that founded and work in the Green Shield Workshop are the core team and the driving force behind Green Banner, they make all the equipment and props, organize events and hold training sessions in the field behind the workshop.
There is no exact point in time when Green Banner was formed. It is an idea that grew with the people it consists of, their imagination and love for the hobby, and it is still growing.
